Internships at A Bryan Photo (photography/graphic design/business)

I've known Bryan a long time, all the way back to when he first started making photographs in college with a Holga. Since then he's become one of the best photographers in the southeast. I'm hoping to get him in a Skype chat with our ART 370 analog/film photography course. Film is Bryan's forté and method of choice for making the most exquisite portraits and wedding/event/fashion photographs. Check out his site for yourself HERE, or check out the opportunity to be an intern at his studio in Birmingham. See details below…

We are pleased to announce again the A Bryan Photo Internships for this fall & early next year!
The program allows us to teach the intricacies of our craft, while imparting the principles needed to run a successful small business. We think you will enjoy working with your hands while learning the analog medium.

We practice a Results Only Work Environment (ROWE) which promotes a more relaxing, enjoyable, and strangely more productive atmosphere. You won’t be asked to fill a certain amount of hours or perform mindless tasks. Your role will be integral to our daily workflow and will help us in the presentation and styling of our imagery.

The A Bryan Photo Internship has proven to be mutually beneficial for both parties and we are honored to consider you for the position.

Details:
Fall Submission Deadline : August 26th
Fall Internship Duration : September 9th – December 20th
Spring Submission Deadline : January 18th
Spring Internship Duration : February 3rd – May 16th
Summer Submission Deadline : May 23rd
Summer Internship Duration : June 2nd – August 22nd

Read the PDF attached below and contact us at info@abryanphoto.com if interested.
Click to view or right click to save the Informational PDF.

Please Keep in Mind:
This is not specifically a photography internship. One may learn about our craft through working with our team but should not expect to be taught or practice photography.

What's your GC story?

Many times students come to college determined to major in X. Four years later they earn their degree in Y. Along the way, they take an array of classes that perhaps may have never interested them before coming to a liberal arts institution. Students often learn outside the classroom as well, through study abroad, volunteering, and internship. Such educational and professional discernment is something particular to liberal arts institutions—including Georgetown College.

Five recent alumni, pictured below, have shared their stories with us. And, we're sharing them with you.  Click here to read these alumni stories.

What's your GC story? How has your liberal arts education served you? What are you doing now?
How would you put YOUR story in words? My journey as at Georgetown College began in...I came to Georgetown to study... After one semester of ...., I decided to look into other courses and possible professions.

Want to share your story? Email Earl Grey, Art Department Chair: jdecker1@georgetowncollege.edu

Shout out: Devon, the KHS, and Internships!!

Devon Stivers, a class of 2012 double major in history and art, has been serving a valuable role as a Collections Intern at the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort over the past year. There, she has been cataloging printed material including art prints, newspaper sheets, pamphlets, and maps. These comprise the Martin F. Schmidt Collection at the KHS and consist of 629 pieces. Read Devon's post on the KHS blog about her internship experience here.

Internships are a fantastic way to gain practical experience while often contributing richly to the life of an organization. Consider that several, if not, most of our students in graphic design complete an internship experience as part of their art major at GC. Art history and cutorial-minded students complete internships in our galleries or in organizations nearby, such as Loudoun House.

Beyond the college career, though, internships are a useful way of building a richer portfolio of work or broadening your skill set. They are a means of finding out whether or not you are suited to post-graduate plans. In other words, you gain experience, contribute to an institution, and discern vocational fit. Devon's internship is a great example of this post-grad connection.

If you have any questions about interning as a student or as a post-bacc, please don't hesitate to ask me. Below, you'll find clips from reports made by recent interns in our galleries. We have at least four students interning this semester. Internships are possible at a variety of institutions, including the KHS. Here's a link to their opportunities, for instance.

Interns Needed at Lexington Art League in May

The Lexington Art League (LAL) is presenting SITE, an exhibition of work by 5 installation artists.  The show will open at the Loudoun House May 24, 2013.  The featured artists are: Alisa Dworsky (Burlington, VT) www.alisadworsky.com, Liz Miller (Good Thunder, MN) www.lizmiller.com, Jason Paradis (Long Island, NY) www.jasonparadisart.com, Chee Wang Ng (New York, NY) http://www.ngcheewang.com/installation, and Blake Eames (Lexington, KY) blakeeamesdesign.com/portfolio/paintings.

Each of the five artists will be in town installing their work during the week leading up to the opening.  Each of the artists needs two assistants that must commit to helping for 5 full days, 9am-5pm, May 20-24.  Lunch will be provided each day.  The tasks required of the volunteers will vary depending on the nature of the artist’s work but could include painting, constructing, working with power tools, lifting, unpacking, lighting, documenting (photo or video), etc.

We are looking for 10 dedicated and enthusiastic people to help us make the exhibition happen.  This is a great opportunity for students or any interested individuals to work with professional artists and work with each other on a meaningful project.  All of the artists and assistants will be working concurrently, so the house will be buzzing with energy and activity.

LAL offers internships and practicum opportunities throughout the year.  We would be happy to work with any student on incorporating this into a spring or summer internship at LAL if desired.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  We are anticipating a lot of interest in this, so please encourage students to contact me as soon as possible to sign up.

Sincerely,
Becky Alley
LAL Exhibitions & Programs Director
