Opportunities: Design Competition

A campaign to develop a new symbol representing bioplastics. Read details here...Design a logo that has a deep, long-term impact in reducing our carbon footprint and waste stream in general. Cereplast, Inc., a manufacturer of proprietary bio-based, compostable and sustainable plastics, has opened a nationwide design competition, “Make Your Mark,” in order to select and launch a universal symbol that represents bioplastics. In 1970 the recycling symbol was similarly discovered through a competition when Gary Anderson’s recycling symbol design was selected. The new bioplastics symbol will indicate that a product is made from green, bio-based material, not petroleum-based material. Mr. Anderson and industrial designer Karim Rashid are among the panel of design experts and industry leaders judging the competition. The winner will be awarded $25,000.

We are expecting the highest number of submissions from the graphic design community and students. This is a great opportunity for your students to see their work side by side with respected design professionals and peers and have their work seen by a large audience; designs will be displayed on the public contest website and public voting will determine the top 50 finalists.

The Make Your Mark contest video, website and Cereplast blog where more information is available are as follows:

I also attached the press release about the contest and a few related images for your reference.

I’d welcome the opportunity to speak with you about different ways we can make your students aware of the contest, and educate them about bioplastics and how the symbol will be used. I look forward to hearing from you.

Best,

Sarah
