Study Photography Abroad: London & Dublin Meeting

I will be leading a photography course abroad through CCSA next winter term for two weeks to London, England and Dublin, Ireland. The topic will be landscape/cityscape photography and culminate in the production of a self-published photo book through Blurb.com. (Here's an example of my book from a previous trip.)

Click here to see students on our last trip at on the Lodon Eye, riding the tube, at the Globe Theatre, Stonehenge, Bath (England), St. Patrick's Cathedral, Glendalough (Ireland), and more.

While there we will make photographs on the city streets of London and Dublin, visit major museums, tour landmarks and historic sites, travel in the region, and perhaps take in a show or two. There will be plenty of opportunity to shop and enjoy local cuisine, as well as celebrating the new year on the Thames with Big Ben if you like.

The trip flies out December 26 and returns returns January 8. Coursework (in terms of editing photos, online discussion, and production of the book) will continue into the beginning of the spring semester.

Application deadline is September 26. Course costs are $4295 (including airfare) or $3295 (excluding airfare).

There will be a brief informational meeting on Tuesday, April 15 at 5:00 PM in the Wilson Art Building, room 104. Come and find out more if you may be interested, and bring a friend!

See you then,
Prof. Darrell Kincer

"Photography & the British Landscape"
Digital photographers will develop their skills as we explore the cityscapes of London and Dublin with visits to the countryside of England and Ireland. Participants will develop their skills as they explore urban cityscapes and rural countrysides. Daily discussions, demonstrations, and critiques will be followed by fieldwork tuned to each photographer’s personal goals and talents. Opportunities will also arise to visit local museums and cultural landmarks. Once home, the course will turn to online posting via Flickr.com for discussion of work and culminate with each student producing a unique art book of edited and refined photographic work through Blurb.com.

London, Dublin: Study Abroad Winter 2012-13

Have you ever considered studying abroad? Or perhaps would like to go again? If so, you'll have a chance next winter. I'll be leading a two-week course to London, England and Dublin, Ireland over the winter break of 2012–13 through CCSA, the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad. It will be a digital photography class focused on the topic of landscape/cityscape and place. We'll fly out at the end of December and stay a week in London, including New Year's, and then hop over to Dublin to finish out our time. Once home, we'll continue to edit and refine our photographs, post them online for critique and discussion, and finally produce a self-published book via Blurb. You can see my sample HERE.

I had the good fortune of leading this same class four years ago with a fantastic group of students (pictured at the top), both from Georgetown College and other colleges and universities. In addition to the two major cities, we visited a variety of attractions and nearby locales, including Stonehenge (above), riding the London Eye (below), the Globe Theatre, Bath, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Glendalough (at the bottom), and Howth.

Online applications for the trip will begin through CCSA around April 1 and the Winter 2012–13 catalogs should be available soon. However, on-campus meetings won't begin until the fall of 2012. Final deadline for applications will be at the end of September on the 28th. There are no prerequisites for the course, so it is open to anyone; although a class in photography and/or digital imaging is recommended.

So if you're interested in working with the camera, if you like to explore the world around you, if you'd like to study abroad, if you'd like to make fantastic friends and great memories, then perhaps this course is for you. In the meantime, if you have questions or want to know more about the trip, stop by my office to chat (Wilson Art Building, room 107).
