- 5 weeks of training: 30 hours; 6 hours weekly on a set schedule
- 10 weeks of tours: approximately 60 hours; 6 hours weekly on flexible schedule (Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
- 10 weeks of project (runs concurrently with tours): approximately 30 hours; 3 hours weekly on flex schedule (Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
- Training begins the week of Jan. 14, 2013.
Students will participate in a 15-week internship program with the Kentucky Historical
Society’s education team. This internship will consist of developing and facilitating
school tours of the Old State Capitol, an 1830’s Greek Revival state house designed by
Gideon Shryock. The internship program will provide five weeks of training (six hours
per week) which will include content information as well as best practices in teaching
and museum education. Weekly readings are also required and will count toward
internship hours. At the end of the five-week training period, students will be expected to
give tours of the Old State Capitol to school visitors for a period of ten weeks. All interns
are expected to be able to commit to an average of six hours per week (flexible
schedule) for tours.
Requirements: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university as an
undergraduate (junior or senior standing) or a graduate student. Project is
approximately 120 hours:
This is a temporary position, with a stipend of $1,000, based in Frankfort, Ky. Employee
benefits are not available. Housing is not provided.

The Kentucky
Historical Society (KHS) is a state agency and membership organization that is
fully accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The KHS mission is to engage people in the exploration of
the Commonwealth’s diverse heritage by providing connections to the past,
perspective on the present and inspiration for the future.
Students
will participate in a 300 hour internship program with the KHS education
team. The intern will assist in
planning, developing and presenting to youth audiences through a variety of
programming including: Camp ArtyFact, Museum Skills workshops, and Night at the
Museum events. Training is
provided for each program.
Ideal
candidate will have experience working with children, is knowledgeable with the
arts and humanities and is familiar with object-based and document-based
teaching using historical artifacts, artworks and documents, in both formal and
informal learning environments.
Requirements:
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university as an
undergraduate (junior or senior standing) or a graduate student. Project is a minimum of 300 hours:
· Training begins in February 2013.
· Some projects on a flexible schedule M-F, 8:30 a.m. to
5 p.m.
· Position must be completed by August 31, 2013.
Required
dates:
· Tuesdays, March and April (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.)
· Thursdays, March through May (12 to 8 p.m.)
· April 1-5: Camp ArtyFact, (flexible schedule)
· June 17-26 (M-F): Camp ArtyFact, summer (flexible
schedule)
This is a
temporary position, with an educational voucher of $1,132 offered through
AmeriCorps, based in Frankfort.
