CALL FOR ARTISTS

Submission deadline: April 15, 2009

Theme: "A House of Prayer for All People"

"This is a great opportunity for our students and artists across the state of
Kentucky to display their expressions of religious life in this venue.
Our chapel will not only be a place of spoken prayer, but also a place of visual
prayer as portrayed through the artists' works." -H.K. Kingkade (Director of
Religious Life)

The Art Department and the Office of Religious Life of Georgetown College are
collaborating to showcase a form of worship through art. Artists from Kentucky are
invited to participate in an exhibition on display in the John L. Hill Chapel on the
campus of Georgetown College for one year.

Duration and Important Dates: Applications must be submitted by April 15, 2009.
Selections will be made and the artists will be contacted by May 1.

Accepted works should arrive on campus by May 22, 2009. The work will be on display
from June 1, 2009 to May 2010.

Work Criteria: The theme of the work should take inspiration from the quote above.
All work must be no larger than 20" X 30".  Work will be hung using d-rings and
hooks.  All pieces should be framed or mounted allowing for hanging mechanism to
attach to the work.  There is limited room for 3-D pieces.

When submitting applications, please include the following:

-               Up to 3 digital images of the work

-               Image list with title, media, dimensions, and date for each work

-               Price, if for sale; otherwise NFS (not for sale)

-               Artist contact information (name, mailing address, phone number, email

address)

-               Artist statement identifying connection to the exhibition theme

Robert C. May Photo Lecture @ UK

Once again this coming Friday, the Robert C. May Lecture will be at UK's Worsham Theatre in the Student Center. Deborah Luster, best known for her portraits of inmates, will be speaking at 4:00 PM and will probably show and talk about her work for about an hour or so. Her photographs are also on display in the UK Art Museum.

Periodic Table of Typefaces

This is for you type folks.

The Periodic Table of Typefaces is obviously in the style of all the thousands of over-sized Periodic Table of Elements posters hanging in schools and homes around the world. This particular table lists 100 of the most popular, influential and notorious typefaces today.

As with traditional periodic tables, this table presents the subject matter grouped categorically. The Table of Typefaces groups by families and classes of typefaces: san-serif, serif, script, blackletter, glyphic, display, grotesque, realist, didone, garalde, geometric, humanist, slab-serif and mixed.

Each cell of the table lists the typeface and a one or two character "symbol" (made up by me simply based on logic), the designer, year designed and a ranking of 1 through 100.
