Welcome Back to Georgetown College!

The weekend before classes began First Year Students were treated to an Orientation program entitled "Spaces and Places" that brought students to various parts of campus to learn about the college's past, present, and future. Students learned about classical education and athletics; Kentucky architecture and the famed painting of the college; community involvement and vocational discernment; and social activities past and present.

Earlier in the weekend, students came together for a service outing -- they went to "Old Friends" to learn about retired horses and to clean and weed the cemetery there.

The Galleries are off to a great start this academic year! Last week, we hosted Heather Deyling, who installed her felt/painting/collage installation "Color Sprawl" in the Cochenour Gallery.  Heather met with several students and gave a public talk describing her influences and processes. Check out the show--it's on view through September 16--and get involved! There will be many more opportunities to meet and work with professional artists in the Georgetown College Fine Art Galleries.

Our most recent project is an E-Card line, which launched in 2011.

Internship Requirements: Proficiency in Adobe Design System -
particularly Illustrator & Photoshop - knowledge of Flash beneficial.

The internship position is a very hands-on job – we do all design and most photography in-house. Interns are asked to be completely involved in the creative process from photo shoots and group brainstorming sessions to final print processing. A recent intern designed one of our top selling holiday cards for this season which is a huge portfolio builder.

Opportunity: Fall Internship at LAL

The Lexington Art League is seeking enthusiastic and qualified interns for the fall 2012 professional intern program. Ideal candidates for these positions possess the following characteristics:

-                Undergraduate student earning a degree in a field related to visual art

-                GPA of 3.0 or higher

-                Strong work ethic

-                Positive attitude

-                Interested in gaining experience and acquiring knowledge related to all departments of a non-profit visual art organization: development, marketing, events, front-of-house, exhibitions and programs

LAL interns will initiate or manage individual projects, as well as assist with existing projects of the organization under the supervision of staff members.

Internship at KHS

Fall 2012 Internship: Student Services

This internship will consist of developing and facilitating school tours of the Old State Capitol, an 1830s Greek Revival state house designed by Gideon Shryock. The internship program will provide 5 weeks of training (3 hours per week) which will include content information as well as best practices in teaching and museum education. Weekly readings are also required. At the end of the 5-week training period, students will be expected to give tours of the Old State Capitol to school visitors for a period of 10 weeks. All interns are expected to be able to commit to an average of 6 hours per week (flexible schedule) for tours. 

Big, Colorful Art

It's going to be an artful week!  In the Cochenour Gallery, installation artist and Savannah College of Art and Design faculty member Heather Deyling will be preparing for the exhibition, "Color Sprawl: Works by Heather Deyling."  She will give a 12:30 p.m. NEXUS talk during the Opening Reception for her show, Friday, August 24, 12-2 p.m.

In the Art Building, check out the BIG Art Sale, also taking place this Friday.  Bring a few bucks and pick up some cool art and other interesting stuff for your room or home studio.

Opportunity: Design Contest

Keenland has teamed up with Kennedy’s Book Store to have a t-shirt design contest. The winning design will be printed on the official Keeneland College Day t-shirt.  Designers must currently be enrolled at a college, university, technical school or trade school. The winning design will be printed on the back of a white long-sleeved t-shirt. The front of the t-shirt will have the Keeneland College Scholarship Day logo. Pleasure by Design

Artist, graphic designer and GC alumna Trista Coy presented a brief synopsis of her Masters of Fine Arts thesis paper for audience members at the opening reception for her exhibition, "Aesthetic Eclectic by Trista Coy: Ornament, Aesthetic Pleasure & Design," which took place last evening, August 16, in the Cochenour Gallery Annex of the LRC.
