Event listing...Weds!

Megan (Parker) Compton, class of 2008, invites everyone to this fantastic event on Wednesday, October 19 from 6:30-8:30 pm. The event is a reception and book signing for Mariana Cook, photographer and protege of Ansel Adams, in celebration of her new book, Stone Walls: Personal Boundaries. [The book was reviewed in the NY Times recently.] The event is at the Bodley-Bullock House, 200 Market Street, Lexington. I'll be there--hope you can make it!

36th Woodland Art Fair is this weekend!

On behalf of the Board of Directors for the Lexington Art League, I would like to invite you to our 36^th AFB Woodland Art Fair!

The Lexington Art League’s programs are made possible through the generous support of LexArts. The annual Campaign for the Arts has raised millions of dollars in support of the visual, literary and performing arts in Lexington. Through the success of the Campaign, LexArts supports The Lexington Art League with an allocation of $62,000 for general operating support. We thank the many individuals whose passion for the arts compelled them to give generously of their time and money. Together these donations helped LexArts raise more than $1 million for the arts community.

Invite to GC Art Alums Gathering, May 12th

“Where are they now?” If you’re curious what your classmates are up to these days, or would like to share some of your recent exciting projects, art-related or not, consider joining us for an evening of networking. The art department will host an “Art Alum Re-connect” on Thursday, May 12. We have talked about doing an Alum event that is geared toward current seniors for some time, but could never come up with an adequate time and format. Finally, it’s a go: the seniors will be having their exhibition closing, the finals are over and the graduation ceremonies just a few days away. You probably remember these few days of “intense quiet” yourself. I will send an e-mail invitation, based on our compiled list of addresses (it is far from complete, but it’s a start), in the next few days.

Also, on Dr. Decker’s behalf, I would like to invite you to her “hopefully annual” end-of-the-year-dept-party on Last Day of Class, Wednesday, May 4. For the direction to her house please e-mail.

Countdown to Linda: two weeks....

Join AHRECO (Art History Reading Group) for the journey to Louisville to hear noted art historian, Linda Nochlin, who will lecture at the U of L. Details: leave GC at 3 pm, head over to the U of L/Speed campus. Lecture at 6 pm. Those who wish can visit 21C on the way home. Hope you can join us. RSVP to Dr. Decker by noon on 3/31. Also, join the reading group that day, as we'll review Nochlin's seminal essay "Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?" All current students and alum are invited to join AHRECO that day!

Old Department Laptops....We Shared the Love

Thank you to the students who supported our "Share the Love" program today. We gave four laptops new homes. Students who purchased them contributed funds toward our spring special event "Empty Bowls." This will be an opportunity for students, alumni, and faculty to come together and make art.
