Periodic Table of Typefaces

This is for you type folks.
Check out this guy, sent to us by our own Hannah Davis. Click HERE for the details and a larger view.

The Periodic Table of Typefaces is obviously in the style of all the thousands of over-sized Periodic Table of Elements posters hanging in schools and homes around the world. This particular table lists 100 of the most popular, influential and notorious typefaces today.

As with traditional periodic tables, this table presents the subject matter grouped categorically. The Table of Typefaces groups by families and classes of typefaces: san-serif, serif, script, blackletter, glyphic, display, grotesque, realist, didone, garalde, geometric, humanist, slab-serif and mixed.

Each cell of the table lists the typeface and a one or two character "symbol" (made up by me simply based on logic), the designer, year designed and a ranking of 1 through 100.

University Open Deadline Approaching

For those applying to the University Open (which should be pretty much everyone who reads this), the deadline is fast approaching. Although the last day to submit is March 18, that's during the middle of Spring Break. So this is the last regular school week to apply.

Your application form ("Intent to Participate") needs to be emailed to Nathan Zamarron by the 18th with your information and up to the three works. If you have questions about preparing your digital files to be emailed, I'll be more than happy to help out.

This is a great opportunity to show your work, be included in a catalogue, improve your resume, receive respect from other artists and art students, increase the respect for the Georgetown Art Department, and possibly win some cold hard cash!

Layers Exhibition and Other Opportunities

The Layers exhibition, featuring Linda Wilson and Kristy Deetz, will be opening Thursday evening, March 5, from 5-7 PM.

Kristy will be involved with a number of events Thursday. From 1:30-3:30 she will be hosting a workshop on encaustic painting. This is a CEP event and an outstanding opportunity to learn a new medium for painting. If you are interested, contact Rachel Brewer to reserve a spot. Kristy will also be giving an artist talk at the opening. This too is a CEP event. Then again on Friday, she will be talking about her work with a slide show at 11:00 AM.

Linda Wilson will be returning to Georgetown on Friday, April 3 at 1 PM to discuss her work. (I'm excited about this event—Linda and I went to SCAD together back in the day.) More info about that Friday to come later.
